There was a significant surge in travel insurance policies for Indonesia in 2025, reflecting the country’s growing appeal among tourists. According to 1Cover, the number of claims filed increased 40% from the previous year.

The majority of these cases were caused by clinical events, including illness and accidents, particularly those involving scooters. Foodborne illnesses and traffic accidents were identified as the main reasons behind these clinical insurance claims.

One of 1Cover’s most expensive claims in 2025 involved a tourist in Lombok who became seriously ill, requiring intubation and ventilation. The total cost of the case was over $287,000.

Natural disasters also impact travel in the region. In November 2025, the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki caused significant cancellations of trips from Bali, significantly disrupting the travel plans of some people.
